Last year I was looking for my source files of my remix of “I’ll Call U Back” and came up empty handed. I have had several computers and external hard drives over that span and it appears that the files have been lost.
So, I turned to making a new Badu remix. “Green Eyes” has been a favorite of mine since the release of the “Mama’s Gun” album at the milenium. That scratchy, limited instrumentation to the first half of the 10 minute plus long track is a wonderful, purposefully understated compliment to Badu’s voice. And that’s where I started.
Unfortunately, life happens and I only got to flesh out about 16 bars before I shelved the idea. I did try to pick it back up over several weeks in summer 2025. However, there was no joy.
Until early last week.
I broke the work back out. It just so happened that my partner was popping into the studio to deliver me a message and heard what the production work was thus far. She was quite excited about the short clip.
I was making quite the progress up to that point. Yet, it was nice to have that extra energy on the production. I ended up flying into completion of “Just A Bit Jelly”.
I really do think it’s a jam that you will want to play again and again. Enjoy!

Contraband is a music series I have produced over the years which are un-official remixes and re-edits. Sometimes you will find tunes that are familiar that I have remixed into dance tracks. Other times it will just be an idea that I’m toying with, a bit of clay so to speak.

Back at the end of July, I’ve added a piece of prose at the top of the show as a way to theme each show. Most of the poems and haikus are new compositions from me.
Which brings me to now. Starting with the show on Sept 2nd, I’ll be playing a newly created Contraband track.
It goes from “Put A Record On” as a call to action and an announcement of what is to come. “Revolution” raises the vibe while demonstrating that this action can be found while dancing in joy.
“Soul Unltd.” and “Deepw!de” pairs two Producer/DJs from the Mid-Atlantic region just before raising the energy again with the poetic mantra of “Sixth Sense” and the homage to Techno’s orgins in “Detroit“.
Next I push vibrations to the max, altimately culminating with “Is It All Over My Face“. All of this just before I smooth it out with “Oasis“.
